The ID&T Expo Winnipeg will be held over one and a half days, offering the flexibility to join one or more sessions.

MLT Aikins is pleased to partner with TechWPG to launch the city’s premier technology expo, offering attendees access to some of the top Innovation, Data & Technology (ID&T) lawyers in Western Canada.

Join us for a series of seminars, interactive workshops and networking opportunities with the lawyers from our ID&T group. This in-person event will offer practical tips on how to proactively manage the ID&T risks your organization faces and give you the chance to meet with industry peers.

Pick and choose the sessions that interest you! The first day will feature a morning and afternoon session or come for the full day geared toward IT managers, C-suite executives, and in-house counsel. Sessions on the second day will be tailored to startup owners and emerging growth companies. Sessions are open for all to attend.

AGENDA

May 25 (Day 1)

Morning Seminar: 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

  • Cloud Software Contracting: In an increasingly technology-driven world, it’s important to ensure you’re up to date on the risks and opportunities of cloud-based software solutions.
  • Digital Transformation Project Considerations: Implementing IT projects can be complicated, and the contracting process is no exception. This presentation will cover how to create an ideal contract structure, how to link contract negotiations to the project and tips for avoiding contracting pitfalls.

Afternoon Seminar & Workshop: 1-4 p.m.

  • Cybersecurity & Privacy for Boards and Senior Management: This session will cover cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies. We’ll discuss your legal requirements, possible litigation risks, consequences for non-compliance and legal tools to minimize your risks.
  • Cyberattack Workshop: This session will apply the key lessons from the previous presentation and give attendees the opportunity to work through a practice cybersecurity scenario.

Networking Reception: 4-5:30 p.m.

May 26 (Day 2)

Rapid Fire Presentations & Fireside Chat: 1-4 p.m.

  • Protecting Your Intellectual Property: Brief introduction to trademarks, patents, copyright and industrial designs. We’ll cover registered vs. unregistered protection of your IP, as well as contractual forms of protection, such as non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements.
  • Commercializing Your Intellectual Property: We’ll discuss how to use and develop your IP to maximize its value, and offer tips on IP licensing and selling or assigning your IP assets.
  • Online Operations: We’ll cover the legal risks organizations face when moving their operations online and offer an overview of the necessary steps to mitigate those risks.
  • Fireside Chat: Join us for a fireside chat with Dustin Brickwood, CEO of Tech Winnipeg. Dustin will discuss the lived experiences of tech startups, including the challenges they face, the mistakes they sometimes make and how tech companies can position themselves for success.
