Join MLT Aikins for an in-depth seminar designed to provide Manitoba employers and HR professionals with the latest strategic insights into labour and employment law. By the end of the day, employees will be thoroughly informed about the following topics:

  • Labour and employment case law: A comprehensive review of recent decisions with implications for both non-unionized and unionized workplaces.
  • Complexities of employee free speech: Both inside and outside the workplace, scenarios discussed will include when employees’ opinions become the employer’s business, regulating employees’ social media use and disciplining off-duty misconduct.
  • Duty to accommodate mental health in the workplace: Incorporating challenging fact scenarios, presenters will provide an overview that includes best practices for requesting and reviewing medical documentation.
  • Employment law litigation considerations: Discussing effective tactics for terminating employment, the rise in summary judgment applications and small claims damages on wrongful dismissal litigation, and recent severance negotiation considerations and related tax implications.
  • On the immigration front: An understanding of the use of Temporary Foreign Workers and the associated risks of misusing this federal program.
  • Q&A session: A panel of presenters will respond to questions on labour and employment law, and related compliance, posed from the attendees.
